Andel Red-Wolf-Running is a young male Elden shaman of the Stone River tribe. Andel (pronounced AHN-del) was involved in a terrible accident as a youth that left him completely blind. As was the custom among his people, Andel was abandoned in the wilderness to 'meet Windfather', one of the most sacred deities to the Elden. Alone and blind in the wilderness, Andel very nearly perished. And so it was that after seven days, the starving and wounded young Elden collapsed and could not rise again.
It was at this time that Andel was discovered by Endoniel Moon-Dancer, a shaman who was undertaking a 'spirit walk' to find the wisdom of Windfather. Interpreting her discovery of Andel as a sign that the youth was to be her successor, Endoniel nursed him back to health and set about teaching him the lore of the wild. While she firmly believed that Andel would one day take her place in the world, Endoniel did not reveal this to the young Elden until much later.
Bitter and full of anger at his blindness and abandonment by his own people, Andel proved to be a difficult student. Nevertheless, Endoniel was patient and Andel soon found that despite his blindness, he was a quick learner. Endoniel took each small victory as further sign from Windfather that Andel was destined to be her successor.
One night, the two Elden unknowingly made their camp near an orc settlement. In the dead of night, they were discovered and the orcs attacked, dealing Endoniel a mortal wound. Upon discovering Andel's blindness, the orcs quickly bound him and began torturing and mocking him.
Suddenly, the orcs cried out in dismay as a pack of great, red wolves leaped from the shadows. The fight was brutal and short, the orcs quickly slain by the wolves. To Andel's amazement, one of the wolves chewed through his bonds and he stumbled forward into the orc's campfire, sending up a shower of red-hot sparks into his face. Crying out in pain, Andel suddenly found that he could suddenly make out the shapes of the wolves, then the firelight, then the trees. The wolves then melted into the surrounding forest, leaving Andel to bury Endoniel and take up her staff.
Now, Andel journeys far over the breadth of Elberen as a shaman to the Elden tribes. Though he has not yet completed his learning, Andel hopes to one day become a full shaman and gift his knowledge to all of the Elden tribes.
