I would like to to throw out how I imagine Dharfang
Far below the western Dragonspine mountains lies the massive capital city of the Trall race in Elberen. The local Trall despite their current truce with the human kingdoms to the south have not permitted any humans from going down into the city it's self.
The main gate to go down to the city is a massive ancient structure that is carved out from the mountain side, it is surrounded by ruins of old equally ancient towers and forts that the Trall simply did not feel like restoring.
Beyond the massive gate are stairs...lots of stairs, with the occasional flat area to the side carved out for rest. These stairs delve down into the earth, so far down in fact it takes a few hours to get to the bottom. When the stairs finally end that is when it opens up to a truly grand site, The Dharfang highway, A remarkably massive tunnel system extremely wide and equally tall carved out of the rock with a road smack dab in the middle. These goes on for miles under the mountains, making a geometric spider web of tunnels under the mountains.
At the very bottom of the stairs, if you where to look dead ahead you would see a faint orange glow. The road to the city of Dharfang is not to far in fact, about 3-4 miles. Once the end of the road is reached it breaks open a view down towards the unimaginably titanic natural underground valley where the Trallish Capitol lies.
Dharfang itself has a very diverse skyline ranging from the very first ancient stone houses, towers, and holds to the new iron factories and buildings. Smoke stacks and chimneys rise from the buildings, bellowing out steam and smoke. Through the valley runs the underground river of Yharthant which supplies the Trall with a surprising amount of fish and serves as a splendid waterway for trade throughout the city.
The local Trall are always crafting instruments of war and combat for the day when the truce with the humans comes to an end...they will be more than ready.
(how I imagine Dharfang, factor out the sun and it's perfect, shading and all)
